ISU students named to spring semester Dean's List

More than 8,149 Iowa State University undergraduates have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the 2016 spring semester Dean's List. Students named to the Dean's List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work.

Upper Iowa University announces 2016 Spring Dean's List

Upper Iowa University has announced its Dean's List for the 2016 Spring semester. To be honored, a student must have earned a minimum 3.50 grade point average for the semester and be enrolled as a full-time student. Jamie Rich earns Academic Excellence Award at BVU

Jamie Rich, a senior psychology major from Belle Plaine, was recently honored at Buena Vista University's student recognition event. Rich received the following recognition: Rich received an Academic Excellence Award as a third year student. This Academic Excellence Award is given to students on the Storm Lake campus whose cumulative GPA is 3.

NCCC Team Cedar 1 helps fight blight in Flint, Michigan‏

By: Alondra Garcia- Diaz Between May 2 and June 30 Cedar 1 is serving in Flint, Michigan with Power of One-Fight Against Blight a GRACE ministries affiliate. The city wide blight problem is immediately obvious upon entering Flint, and Cedar 1 is proud to be helping eliminate such a widespread issue. During the first two weeks, Cedar 1 mowed and cleared 66 vacant and abandon lots of trash, brush, and other debris.

427 Wartburg students named to Winter/May Term Dean's List

Wartburg College has recognized 427 students who were named to the 2016 Winter/May Term Dean's List. Those honored include: Sara Jorgensen of Vinton Megan Bridgewater of Van Horne Korbi Burkey of Walker Tate Hadachek of Dysart The list honors students who earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above in at least five course credits during the two terms.

NCCC Oak 2 Builds New Path for Marsh Haven Nature Center

By: Sarah Hoke and Tyler Morgan Oak 2 packed up their van on May 2 and headed out to Waupun, Wisconsin for the first half of their split project round. This was their second project and they were eagerly waiting to get started at Marsh Haven Nature Center, a nonprofit volunteer-supported nature center that educates the community on the wildlife of their 46 acre property of wetland and prairie.

NCCC Oak 7 Travels to Camp Courageous in Northwestern Ohio

By: Sarah Feyers On May 1, NCCC Team Oak 7 loaded up their van and began their seven and a half hour journey to Whitehouse, Ohio, a small town in the Toledo metropolitan area, where they would serve Camp Courageous, a summer camp for individuals with developmental disabilities. Not only was this Oak 7’s second project, but also their first project outside of the state of Iowa, where the team served for their first round project.

MCC Fall 2015-Spring 2016 Graduates Announced

On Friday, May 6, graduates of Marshalltown Community College took their next step as they became alumni of the College. Graduates listed below represent those who completed their degree or diploma work during the fall 2015 term and spring 2016 terms; those who complete their degree requirements this summer will be announced in late July.   Graduates are listed by their hometown, followed by the degree/diploma awarded (AA is Associate in Arts, AS is Associate in Science, AGS is Associate in General Studies, AAS is Associate in Applied Science), and the students' majors.

Selkens of Keystone Celebrate 50 Years

Gerald and Margaret (VonMuenster) Selken of Keystone IA were married June 11, 1966 at the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clarence IA. They have three children: Cindy (Tom) Wagoner of Colonia IL, Angie (Rick) Becker of Vinton and Wayne Selken of Cedar Rapids. They have three grandchildren, Andrea Wagoner, Anna and Jakob Becker. They will celebrate their anniversary with their family on June 12, 2016 at their home.

4,595 receive degrees at ISU commencement

At Iowa State University's spring commencement ceremonies, 4,595 students received degrees. Iowa State awarded 3,818 undergraduate degrees, 496 master's degrees, 141 veterinary medicine degrees and 140 doctor of philosophy degrees. Of the students receiving bachelor's degrees, 1,141 graduated "With Distinction" (cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude).
